What we do

Intellectual Disability

Children with ID have considerable difficulties in both intellectual functioning (e.g., communication, learning, problem solving) and adaptive behavior (e.g., daily social skills, routines, hygiene).

IDs can be mild or more severe. Children with more severe forms usually need more support, especially at school. Children with milder ID can acquire some independence skills, especially in communities where there is a good education and support system. There are many programs and resources available to help these children as they grow and become adults.

The Dídac Sánchez Foundation will promote the following tasks

  • Placement of people with ID in jobs in companies that have adaptation and development measures.
  • Modify things, procedures or systems to allow a person with a disability to use them to the maximum extent possible (reasonable accommodations).
  • Eliminate the belief that people with disabilities are unhealthy or less capable of doing things (stigma, stereotypes).
