Ukraine's agricultural area occupies 41.5 million ha (70% of total area), with the population dedicated to the agricultural sector being 17% of the employed population and 7% of the total population of almost 43 million, excluding Crimea. The area dedicated to cereal cultivation exceeds 28 million ha representing 67% of total agricultural area, a very high percentage that places the cereal sector as the main crop in Ukraine.
The agricultural sector and especially cereals, represent a primordial role in relations with the EU and especially with Spain, the world's first corn importer and second in wheat.
Therefore, we consider the cereal sector of this country to be of interest for Spain, which needs to supply itself with wheat and corn mainly at competitive prices, without import tariffs and with fast, affordable and cheap maritime transport that a country like Ukraine can offer.
Since we made our first grants here, we have worked closely with different organizations, academia, the private sector and civil society to help advance the country on the path to becoming a European country and sharing the ideas and technologies developed in Ukraine throughout the world.
